Public Works practitioners play a crucial role in the planning and delivery of public works and engineering services to the community.
The Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia (IPWEA) is a national professional organisation providing member services and advocacy for those involved in this important industry. IPWEA (Vic) is the Victorian Division of the IPWEA, with our members representing practitioners in state and local government as well as private industry.
A number of significant developments have occurred recently which now provide for an exciting new future for local government & public works engineering across Victoria.
IPWEA (Vic) was a separate entity until it joined with some other professional groups to form LGPro following the amalgamation of local governments by the Kennett State Government. However a Special General Meeting was held on 29th March 2007 to set a new direction formalising the re-establishment of IPWEA as an independent entity.
IPWEA (Vic) is now putting in place its own arrangements to:
1 > provide technical leadership for the wider local government & public works sector
2 > support a regional structure for IPWEA and its members
3 > foster interaction between LG engineering and broader public works agencies, e.g., water authorities and VicRoads engineers
4 > create essential networking with peers across LG and the wider public works sector
5 > provide valuable professional development opportunities
6 > provide access to national and international networks
7 > provide a single point of contact and recognition for public works engineering contribution to industry working groups
8 > strengthen relationships with IPWEA National and other IPWEA State Divisions
9 > keep you up-to-date with industry issues, and
10 > provide administrative and executive support to achieve its objectives.
Already there have been numerous and strong indications of support for the new IPWEA (Vic) from many individuals and organisations. The Board is confident that the strategic relationships it has with the Municipal Engineering Foundation (Victoria) and many other organisations will strengthen, and their support for the future is assured.
This new direction will allow IPWEA (Vic) to encompass the wider public works engineering sector and not be restricted only to local government. This will provide members with broader opportunities.
IPWEA (Vic) promotes professionalism, education, knowledge sharing and technical knowledge and holds strategic alliances with other relevant organisations. IPWEA (Vic) is a company and its operation is governed by a Constitution and By-Laws.
The community demands the utmost in professional competency by the practitioners who deliver public works services. To maintain this high standard of professional competency, the IPWEA (Vic) will be providing regular skills development programs.
Members of IPWEA (Vic) have access to many services and benefits, information on which is contained under 'Membership'.
