May 22 - 23
Brisbane, QLD

This Course is primarily concerned with providing delegates with the knowledge, and practical understanding, to enable full evaluation of maintenance & rehabilitation options, and their most beneficial use. Case studies are used throughout to facilitate practical learning. The Course briefly reviews the importance and types of maintenance, pavement distress modes and evaluation techniques. Preventative and periodic maintenance options will be fully explored and detailed.

Advice is given for the investigation of sealed road pavements, and for the selection and design of pavement strategies & treatments specifically for roads carrying normal loadings with a specific focus on flexible pavements. By using case studies the course will cover the rehabilitation “strategy” involving scoping the project, investigation and evaluation of the existing pavement, development of treatment options and the selection and implementation of the most appropriate of these options.

The IPWEAQ Complete Streets Training is a one-day workshop to initiate and familiarise prospective users with the new Queensland Streets manual now called Complete Streets. As Local Government pushes towards major design changes in town planning, the NEW Complete Streets manual provides councils and organisations the opportunity to discover the new direction in urban and town planning.

The workshop is presented in a practical format by introducing Complete Streets philosophy, document tour and workshops. IPWEAQ has created an event that involves Council members and members from UDIA and PIA, as both of these well known associations are in full support of this initiative.

Queensland Health will also present insight from their Directive called Active Healthy Communities. They have played an important role in the Complete Streets document and it is important that their message be conveyed to our urban planners of Queensland.

The purpose of the IPWEAQ Supervisors Workshop training is to provide some guidance for supervisors, works staff and young engineers in preparing, organising, managing, undertaking and completing works. It covers methodology in all aspects of the work, with reference to legislation and regulations applicable to the task. The program also includes group workshops for practical application.

The Workshop is designed for field staff in city, urban and country environments.

IPWEAQ has produced a handbook for use by works supervisors and works staff, within local government, public works, construction and contracting industries in city, urban and country environments. It will also be of value to young engineers as they gain experience in the field. The handbook allows members of the workforce to learn what ‘works staff’ do and open up opportunities for workers seeking advancement in their careers. Encompassing such a broad range of activities, the handbook is written at a ‘not-too technical’ level. Assistance of more qualified personnel should be sought as required.

The handbook is the practical reference book used during the training, and a copy must either be purchased or brought to the training program.

Our Road Safety Audits program feedback from attendees reflected a keen interest in and identified a need for our new program, Investigation & Treatment of Crash Locations.

This two-day training workshop is based on the Austroads Guide to Road Safety Part 8: Treatment of Crash Locations. This Guide contains practical, hands-on advice to help practitioners in road authorities investigate and treat locations on the road system which are experiencing traffic crashes.  By effectively treating these locations, through the application of effective engineering solutions, the number and severity of crashes can be reduced.  The guide includes a step-by-step process to be followed and this is explained through the workshop, with practical examples to help participants to become familiar.  The guide also includes information on:

- The Safe System philosophy
- Understanding crash costs
- How to identify the possible causes of repeated crash patterns
- How to select effective remedial treatments
- Undertaking economic appraisals
