Queensland Foundation for Public Works Engineering
The Foundation has among its objects set out in the Trust Deed the Queensland Foundation for Public Works Engineering:
(a) to provide and administer the necessary funds to enable members of IPWEAQ and others who have an active interest and involvement in the advancement of public works and the science of public works engineering to undertake study and research and to obtain experience in the science of engineering and engineering practice and allied scientific subjects in countries overseas or within the Commonwealth of Australia, and
(b) to provide means whereby the benefit of such study research and experience may be made available for the common use of persons or bodies concerned or interested in public works engineering.
To further these objects, the Foundation provides Fellowships which are awarded under the conditions and procedures set out below.
1. General Conditions and Information
(a) Applications for Fellowships may be made by any person who can fulfil the conditions laid down hereunder.
(b) Applications may be made by a person or by his employer Council or organisation (subject to preparation of the application by the nominee).
(c) Investigations may be conducted in one or more areas or countries and may include as the prime or ancillary object attendance at a conference of standing.
(d) The Fellowship must be commenced within six months from the date of notification of the grant, unless an extension is granted by the Trustees. It must be used for the purpose approved by the Trustees.
(e) Applicants are advised of the importance of the original application which should be as detailed as possible, and where travel is involved should give details of the proposed itinerary.
(f) Selection of matters for investigation is wholly in the hands of the applicant. In granting a Fellowship regard will be paid to the matters to be investigated, their importance to public works engineering and the work carried out by the applicant in gaining information.
(g) Applications should be submitted as early as possible before the closing date as some time is needed to prepare them for selection.
3. Eligibility for Fellowship
No person shall be eligible to be a candidate if he has previously been awarded a Fellowship within the last five (5) years. The Trustees may waive this clause if the application is considered to be of outstanding benefit for the development of public works engineering in Queensland.
Each applicant shall:
(a) Be at least 21 years of age, be a Member of IPWEAQ or be eligible for such membership and have an active interest and involvement in the advancement of local government and the science of public works engineering. Preference will be given to IPWEAQ members.
(b) Have had at least five years practical experience either in public works engineering or in work associated with public works engineering.
(c) No candidate who fails to attend in person before the Selection Committee when requested so to do or to produce to the Committee evidence of his qualifications and such references as to character and integrity as the Committee shall require shall be eligible for a Fellowship.
(d) No candidate shall be entitled to have his application submitted to the Selection Committee unless he shall:
(a) In the opinion of the Trustees have the qualifications referred to in Clause 3 (a) and 3 (b) hereof.
(b) Give the undertakings referred to in Clauses 4 (a) to 4 (e) inclusive hereof.
