IPWEA NSW delivers a broad range of events including; workshops, one day conferences, awards dinners and state conference throughout the year. Over the past two years we have developed an intern program as we strongly believe in professional growth and the learning experience.
Our interns assist with every aspect of our events, in particular:
- P.R. (i.e. securing promotional coverage)
- Quarterly Publications
- Marketing (DM and eDM)
- Events logistics
- Events operational
- Flyers Design
- Administrative duties
Previous interns have enjoyed their experience within the organization and have been involved in all aspects of our business which is beneficial to both us and them. Whilst they are completing an internship as part of their university requirements, many choose to complete an internship to gain training in an English working environment. The internship experience and skills they achieve will be an asset to their career and give them a competitive edge in the job market.

At this moment I am in my 3rd month at IPWEA and I am really enjoying my internship. I learnt about organising events and how to handle the processes. I was responsible for organising the Annual General Meeting, published the Showcase Journal Spring Edition and now I am working on the Regional Conferences. All though I am an intern at IPWEA, I have a lot of responsibility and that makes me feel that I am part of the company.
Also the working environment is really great. I like that it is a small team and colleagues are very approachable. When I have finished my internship I will look back at what I have learnt about organising events and the great people I have met.

The reason that I wanted to do this internship at IPWEA is to learn how to plan, organise and experience the process of organising an event and work in a pleasant team environment.
My main assignment at IPWEA was the planning and organising of the Annual General Meeting, in October 2011. I had to execute different tasks, arranging a venue and conference rooms for the meeting, accommodation for delegates and make sure that all the necessary audio visual-equipment was present. On the day of the Annual General Meeting I had to oversee the event and make sure that everything ran smoothly.
At this moment I am working on the Showcase Journal Summer Edition and Regional Conferences. This last assignment teaches me to kinds of logistics are involved in organising an event.

Hi there! My name is Beth and I’m a Pom! Whilst I was an intern at IPWEA I was also studying Tourism and Events Management back in the UK. My internship was part of my placement year at university. I came across the internship and thought it would be a great opportunity to carry out my placement year whilst experiencing another culture in a different country.
From day one right up until my last day IPWEA everybody in the office made me feel very welcome. It was a very much home to home for me. Both John and Michelle were very supportive and provided me with perfect guidance throughout the six months I was with them. I learnt a lot during my time there. I was able to assist during events but also work individually on some of them. I also developed my IT skills further and built up my confidence.
My time at IPWEA was fantastic and would recommend anybody to do the same internship as I did there. I’m looking forward to taking my experience with me into my future employments.
