Special Interest Areas
IPWEA provides national leadership in a number of key areas
including:
NAMS.AU provides national & international
leadership and advocacy in the sustainable management of public works
infrastructure, community assets and services. Many valuable resources
and tools are provided to assist asset management practitioners in
their role.
Climate change is a significant global challenge. Public
works engineers & technical staff can make a critical contribution
to risk assessment, adaptation and the mitigation of impacts, all
measures designed to reduce the impact of climate change. IPWEA sees
this as an issue of national importance for its members and wider
industry.
Plant & vehicle management has long been a
neglected area of asset management in local government and many other
areas of public works. IPWEA is providing a new resource to assist plant
and vehicle managers in their role as true business
managers.
Initially the problem was seen as attracting
young people to a career in the industry. However the issue is much
wider. We also need to have strategies for retaining existing staff and
also experienced people who would normally be ready to retire. It
is also about tackling the demand side of the equation.
Yardstick Parks goes well beyond normal
benchmarking exercises. Yardstick is a valauble tool for measuring your
operations and management in parks - and now there is also Yardstick
Pools.
